Welcome to Ucluelet's Live HD Eagle Nest Webcam! Here you'll be able to watch an entire life cycle of an eagle from the egg being laid & hatched to the learning of eating and flying! Be sure to check back often as the birds grow up fast. Interesting facts about our Eagles: ~ This nest is 12 ft deep, 8 feet wide, and almost weighs one tonne! The nest is also made primarily out of branches, moss and dirt. ~ Each year Bald Eagles return to this nest where they hatch between 1 to 3 eggs. The eggs are about 3 inches long and have a breadth of 2 1/2 inches. ~ Both the male and female take turns incubating the eggs while the other parent will hunt for food or look for nesting material. ~ The Bald Eagle is a very large bird, with a body length of up to 40 inches, a wingspan of up to 9 feet, and a mass of up to 20 lbs! ~ Females are about 25 percent larger than males. ~ It hunts fish by swooping down and snatching the fish out of the water with its talons. ~ Their diet consists mainly of fish, but it is an opportunistic feeder so it will pick up any scraps available. ~Bald Eagles can live up to thirty years! It is sexually mature at four or five years of age in the wild and can often survive longer in captivity. |
