The Canadian Pacific waters off Tofino & Ucluelet are cool, but fairly constant 10°C/50°F, enabling boarders to surf the ocean waves all year round! Thanks to modern day wetsuit technology, anyone can now surf our cool waters for hours on end! A full 4-6mm wetsuit with booties, gloves and a hood is recommended for winter surfing and only a 3mm wetsuit is needed during the warmer summer months. The best surfing is usually to be had during the winter months as coastal storms brew up some pretty decent sized swell to the area. Don't fear the winter ocean if you're just a beginner though, there is always a sheltered beach somewhere between Tofino & Ucluelet offering small, gentle waves for learning on. The summer months are beautiful and a treat to surf in with the warm heat of the sun and long days & nights. Good swell is also pretty constant on the west coast with more than 350 surf-able days during the year! |
