Storm Watching!
The storm season in Tofino and Ucluelet generally begins in November, and can last until April or May.
However, the most intense storm watching period is usually between December and February. The
storms themselves develop on the offshore waters of the Pacific Ocean, when low pressure systems meet
a high pressure system, causing hurricane force winds, torrential rains, and massive ocean swells.
Typically, the time to witness the largest swells and pounding surf, is a couple days after the storm itself,
when the waters have had a chance to reach us from the offshore. Storms can be enjoyed from trail
lookouts, beaches, or curled up in a cozy B&B, resort or cabin on the beach. If you plan to enjoy the
storms outside, be sure to dress for the elements! Gum boots and waterproof jacket & pants!
