November 19-21, 2009 - 13th Annual Clayoquot Oyster Festival: The Clayoquot Oyster Festival is a celebration of the abundance and beauty of the sea. On the west coast, oysters give our towns alot to celebrate about. Oysters and other local shellfish work hard filtering the ocean and feed on the rich algae in our cold coastal waters. They also taste great too! This festival features oyster farm tours, educational seminars, the Mermaid's Ball, and of course the ever popular Oyster Gala. December 2009 - Ucluelet Harbour Lights Sail Past: Head on down to the Main St. dock, Ucluelet to view all the boats as they sail past, decorated with festive lights and Santa on board! There is also a big fireworks display as well as hot chocolate, hot apple cider, carols and cookies. |
March 6-14, 2010 - 24th Annual Pacific Rim Whale Festival: Over one week of concerts, arts, galas and celebrations honouring the great gray whale migration. The gray whale makes its long journey from Baja, Mexico, all the way to the Bering Sea. This area is a rich feeding ground during the spring and summer months for these migrating whales, and many can be seen during this time! Each year since 1999 the Pacific Rim Whale Festival Society has had the pleasure of featuring a local artist's work through signature posters that are now considered by many as collector's items! May 1-3, 2010 - Shorebird festival: Tofino's expansive mudflats and beaches are the perfect habitat and feeding grounds for migrating shorebirds during the spring months. From mid April until June, thousands of shorebirds rest and feed before continuing their migration north. The annual migration for these birds can be up to 7,000 kilometres from as far as the Southern tip of South America, to their Northern breeding grounds in Canada and Alaska. Tofino will celebrate it's 13th Annual Shorebird Festival this year, please come on down and join in on a weekend of walks, talks, guided birding & more! May Long Weekend - Annual Clayoquot Island Preserve Open House: Annual opening of a wildlife refuge and gardens owned by the Land Conservancy. May 22nd 2010 - 10th Annual George Fraser Day & Heritage Fair: Take a walk through Ucluelet's George Fraser memorial park in honor of George Fraser, one of the worlds leading horticulture hybridizers of rhododendrons. Most of the huge rhododendrons seen around Ucluelet are from Fraser's original gardens! Spend the day walking the old gardens, viewing old historical exhibits & presentations, listening to an Old Time Fiddlers concert, attending the big plant sale and more! |
