Tofino & Ucluelet Beaches
The coastline stretching from Tofino to Ucluelet is an exhilarating mix of rugged rocky shorelines, and long
sandy beaches pleasing to every type of beach explorer. Whether you wish to have a long pensive walk on
endless kilometres of white sandy beach, or explore tidal pools rich with life and color, these west coast
beaches have got it all. The entire coastline faces the open Pacific Ocean, making it vulnerable to the
many different storms and weather systems, which mould and shape the she shore's sands and stones.
Much of this area is protected by Parks Canada, and was named Pacific Rim National Park in 1971. Many
of the beaches within the park, and surrounding the park, are easily accessible by vehicle, walking a very
short and easy trail straight to the beach. Other beaches are accessed by a leisurely walk along a
boardwalk before arriving at the beach.
For people seeking a more challenging trail, or more secluded beach, there are also several beaches only
accessible by long windy sets of stairs meandering through the rainforest before eventually being spit out
onto the sandy beach. Upon enjoying the natural treasures of this area, (such as seashells, plants,
driftwood etc) please keep in mind that to remain a pristine untouched place, we must leave these
treasures in their place as many of them provide food, shelter and other resources to the creatures who live
here. If visiting beaches within the Pacific Rim National Park, please be sure to purchase a park pass from
any tourism info centre, or by credit card in the parking lot of the beach itself.
